Real-time movie discovery

CineSeek
CineSeek turns a third-party film API into a fast, browseable discovery interface with search, ratings, posters and detail views. The build is a study in consuming an external REST API well: handling latency, missing fields and rate limits without those problems reaching the user.

The problem
Interfaces built on someone else's API inherit that API's failures. Requests are slow sometimes, fields are missing sometimes, and rate limits arrive without warning. A naive integration passes all of that straight through to the user as blank screens and broken layouts.
The approach
Search leads the experience rather than a static catalogue listing, because discovery is what the user actually came to do. Requests are structured to fetch what the current view needs rather than everything available.
Missing data is handled as a normal case, not an error: a film without a poster or a rating renders cleanly rather than leaving a hole in the grid.
Why this matters for business systems
Most real business software talks to something external — a payment gateway, a courier API, FBR's invoicing endpoint. How gracefully a system behaves when that dependency is slow or down is a large part of whether people trust it.
